In an intimate studio rendezvous, we caught up with Yasar Aydin, the artisan behind the exquisite BCA Statuette, a craft he's been perfecting since 2010.

Q: What initially drew you to the art of jewelry making, and how did you get started?

A: I've always felt a profound passion for creating and shaping with my hands, a sentiment that dates back as far as I can remember. While my formal art education began relatively late, the richness of life experience has significantly influenced my artistic journey.

Q: Can you share a bit about your creative process when designing the Bartenders' Choice Awards trophy/statuette? Where did you find inspiration?

A: The creative evolution of the BCA Statuette has been a fascinating journey. Unlike its initial designs, today's statuettes boast a unique blend of porcelain, wood, and metal. Each porcelain piece is meticulously crafted to embody distinct colors, shapes, and expressions. My inspiration stems from a desire to ensure that every statuette is visually distinctive, offering a personal touch.*

Q: The BCA trophy has evolved over 14 years. How do you approach the challenge of keeping the design fresh & relevant while maintaining a connection to the award's history?

A: The evolution of the BCA Statuette mirrors my growth as an artist. From early designs in jesmonite to the current focus on delicate porcelain, the journey has been transformative. I find inspiration in new expressions and colors, constantly challenging myself for the statuette's ongoing development.

Q: How does the cultural or regional context play a role in shaping your artistic vision when creating pieces like this?

A: The Nordic ambiance, known for its attention to detail in decorating bars and restaurants, greatly influences my work. I aim for the BCA Statuette to resonate with this environment, reflecting a shared appreciation for craftsmanship and aesthetic finesse.
